I know it’s pretty much fandom-canon, but I could never get behind Saturn in ChibiMoon’s team. She’s not part of the Asteroids; she’s an Outer. Besides which, I’ve always thought of the Outers as darker versions of the Inners, working in the shadows. Don’t get me wrong, I love ChibiMoon and Saturn’s friendship, but I just don’t see Saturn as part of ChibiMoon’s team—at least not in a “fighting by her side” kind of way.

It doesn’t get said enough.  They were a family.  Three mothers and their adopted daughter.  They wore promise rings as a symbol of their relationship, and if you consider how hugely important every piece of jewelry is in Sailor Moon, you realize that that means everything.  Setsuna and Hotaru had no home, no biological family, but that didn’t matter because they made their own.

Everybody talks about how amazing it was that a children’s show in the early 90s displayed a lesbian couple.  Let’s talk about how the manga displayed a lesbian family.  Let’s talk about how that lesbian family included their platonic friend, who was every bit as much a parent to their daughter, and there was nothing weird about that.

I have varied feelings about the outer senshi. Pluto I like but always f let like she had this matured sadness to her because of her role that the other scouts- even Saturn- couldn’t understand. Saturn I came to love later in life because she is basically the opposite of sailor moon- with the power to destroy everything so serenity can bring it back; although I felt when she was reincarnated she lost that badass quality. Even her fuku lost it’s uniqueness. Uranus and Neptune I always saw as…cheaters in a way- while all the other scouts seemed to be dedicated to protecting serenity and remaining chaste (and thus not distracted from their soldier duties), Uranus and Neptune are the only other scout who have a relationship. It is the only reason at times I can tolerate their occasional abrasive, “elitist” behavior- they were the rebel soldiers.
